Basic provisions can be purchased in several shops in Ponta Malongane. CARLO’S CHAN SHOP (opposite “Mermaids Cove” Restaurant). It has a proper bottle store with a great selection of wines, spirits, and beers. Also other supplies like long life milk, bottled water and cooldrinks.
The Mozambique bread rolls (called Pão) can be purchased at Malongane Bakery and at many other “Barracas” in Malongane Village.
There are restrictions on alcohol, either hide your stash or restrict quantities. (100% duties on alcohol)
On exit back to South Africa. The South African Environmental Authorities will prohibit fresh fruit and vegetables entering South Africa.
Please also restrict fish quantities imported back into South Africa (Usually 2kg per person) of pelagic/game species. But You supposed to have a licence, purchased in Pretoria, to bring this fish through the border, No, bottom Reef fish or endangered species allowed.
Next to the pharmacy there is LUKAS SHOP where you can find pretty much anything you need, from an amazing variety of chips, braai utensils, sometimes even fresh produce. This includes meat and biltong. A bit further down the road still in the center of Malongane in the direction to Ponta you will find the TRADING POST. Amazing selection of meat, fresh and frozen pies, cheese, wines and any other delicatesse you might need.
The Market in Ponta do Ouro has all the same goods but more vendors (not necessarily more variety).
It is recommended that you bring most of your own food with you. There are no restrictions on bringing meat and vegetables into Mozambique through the Kosibay Border.
